NIKKI BLACKMARKET INTERVIEW

Here is our first big name interview, Nicky Blackmarket is very VIP in the Drum and Bass world. He has the largest and biggest dance specialist in the country. This shop has been going for years and is a firm favourite on the scene, providing charts to ourselves, Radio One's Fabio and Grooverider to various other big magazines across the Country like 7, Touch Magazine and Dj mag to name but a few. I was well pleased when he said yes to the interview, and says he is surprised to see that there is a Drum and Bass magazine like this one. Well Bomb Sounds Magazine is here to stay, and there'll be plenty of more interviews like this one to come, so stay tuned..........

Bazzy B : " So what is it like to be one of the most important Drum and Bass outlets in the country?"

Nicky: " I'm actually very chuffed, however it can be very hard at times, you know Djing around variuos clubs around the country and then having to run a very busy record store as well. Time is very little in my world, but I love it!!!!"

Bazzy B : " For the readers of the mag who don't know, can you tell us a bit about Blackmarket?"

Nicky : " Well basically Blackmarket are one of the longest and biggest dance record shops in the country, and our variety of the dance that we specialise in varies, we do however have a massive Drum and Bass influence, and thats basically it. "

Bazzy B : " What was it like to have Dillinja walk into your store every now and then, and hand over to you some of his pressed records and say "Can you sell these for me?"

Nicky : "Well as a matter of fact I knew Dillinja back in the old days, and I used to play on his sound system with Clarky in about 19989/90. The he sold his set to buy himself some equipment to make tracks with, I remember him buying a sampler and a mixing deck, and then of course the rest is History as you would say."

Bazzy B : What does the future hold for Blackmarket records?

Nicky : "Ha ha ha ha, well i'm not sure, lets just go with the flow and see what happens, that's what I've been doing all these years!!"

Bazzy B : What has been the highlight for you during the Drum and Bass scene?

Nicky : " Well that would have to be all the times that I have played at some of the most riffin parties, I love to DJ and everytime it blows me away totally!"

Bazzy B : "For the readers, tell them a bit more about your record label!"

Nicky : "Well, basically it is called 'Kartoonz', and the label tends to deal with all aspects of Drum and Bass, that's how we wanted it to be, we didn't want all dark, all jump up etc, we wanted to cover everything!"

Bazzy B : " Who's doing it for you on the scene at the moment?"

Nicky : " At this moment in time I could not say, there is nobody at the moment, the way that things are going is that it is a collective movement and that is a good thing because it means the scene is keeping itself alive!"

Bazzy B: "What would you say is your favourite track of all time?"

Nicky : " That would defintely have to be without doubt "2 Degrees" by TNT, it always comes up trumps and does it for me!"

Bazzy B : " Where in your mind do you think the scene is going, do you think that it will last for another 10 years?"

Nicky: "It appears to be an on going progression, I think that it is more than likely that it will mutate into some other form of music genre, like most music"

Bazzy B : Thankyou for taking the time to answer my questions and i'll look forward to speaking to you again sometime!
