L DOUBLE

Two hours to go, and I slam on some of L Double's previous shows that I have been listening to for the past three years, and I am proud to say that I have not missed one of them! Travelling all the way from Newcastle to Yorkshire, parking the car in a car park and listening to the show every week was hard work until I finally moved down here to Lincoln, where with a strong ariel I can pick up the show. It was ironic that on the weekend where I was finally going to see my God, I had to be in Newcastle to do a Radio Show! So when I finished it at 7:00pm I rushed down with 2hrs to get there! I made it after listening to L Double for the last two hours in my car. Rushing out I get to the venue actually early! I had some of my flyers for the mag in my pocket ready to give out whenever I could, I wanted to give them to L Double especially so he could maybe give it shout over the radio on his his show:)

I met my friend there, and we went inside to check out the club. It was a brilliant venue for an event like this one. Very Very underground with that early 90's feel to it. Oh yes this was going to be a good night. There was also a back room where they will be playing some hip hop and rare grooves. I had a walk around and it was all good, the warm up Dj was a guy called FAZE, who sounded pretty good he was dropping a few favourites of mine, The Spy's "The Way" was one oif them. I went down stairs to get a drink, they didn't sell Source so I settled in the end for a bottle of Bud! After looking around I couldn't see no sign of L Double, and the club had only a bare 30 people in it for the first hour! Then there was this guy, big black, bald and wearing similar clothes to the ones worn by L Double, was that him I thought? We decided to follow him and find out, as we were walking down the stairs, I turned to Dan and said "I here Lee is going to be here tonight you know." The guy turned around and looked at us! That must be him then! So we followed him some more, only to find that he went to the bar! Huh? I bought a bottle of Bud!!! I thought to myself drinking before his set? no way! I moved in closer to here him talk, he turned to a friend and said "I, i'll be going upstairs to listen to some banging trance in a minute, are you coming????" I felt distraught! My God L Double a beer drinking Trance lover??? No way! My heart sank and I went back upstairs to listen to Elevate and Weaver, who are other members of the Flex Crew. I put my hands in my face and thought to myself, what the hell has happened to the scene that I love? Looking around, only a bear 50 people were here! Then all of a sudden things started to liven up, more people came pouring through the doors and it was getting packed. This was more like it I thought, but what about the irridical behaviour from L Double??

10 minutes to go before L Double's set, I took a quick glance at the Dj Box, and OH MY GOSH!!! (L Double should get that pun:) there he was, how could I of mistaken him for anybody else! The real L Double was standing right infront of me, and he looked just like he does in the photo's!!!! I grabbed Dan and we went towards the booth. I stood there just watching the master set his tracks up on the decks, noticing each track that he played. Once he was on the floor filled up like i've never see it before! Track after track was brilliant, but it was time to attempt to talk to the man! The first word's that I said to him were "I have travelled all of the way from Newcastle to see you today!" which was true. He looked at me and went "Really?" I was expecting him to turn around and say OH MY GOSH but he didn't :( . I then asked him if he could play my fav remix of the year, L Double's very own remix of Bobby Digital by RZA. He said he would, so I went and bought him a drink of Red Bull, which I was happy to see he drank!

After an hour of his set, I leant over and said "You haven't forgottin about my Bobby, Bobby, Bobby have you? He turned around glanced smiled and pulled it out from under his decks placed it at the front of the pile and said "No, tell me when your leaving and i'll put it on for ya," I Turned around and replied with "I'm not leaving until you finish mate!" and he laughed. This was all by this stage already moving for me, to actually be able to see my god play infront me was pure excellence! Then near the end of the set, i heard the sounds of Killa Bee, Killa Bee and I knew this was Bobby Digital! I danced my head off to this to show my appreciation! At the end of the set came the most shocking and moving experience of my life, his final track was my fav of the year "Pyramids" by Northern Lights, which is himself, Mc Verse and Revolver in production, which was a track which I was willing to pay £15 for from a friend of mine. This really topped the night, but it was to get even better though, at the end of the set L Double turned around to me and said "This one is definetly you my man!" he then handed me his own copy of Pyramids with the Maytrix on the flip side! Two of my fav tracks! I couldn't believe it, I was in total shock!!! I looked frantically for a pen put couldn't find a one! Before he went I was able to give him a few of my flyers for this mag, hope he checks it out and hope he gives it a shout on his show :)

All in all it was a brilliant night, Stomp and FAZE were good as were Elevate and Weaver, dropping the best in Dark and jump up Drum and Bass. But to be fair of course L Double stole the show, and well done to him, and i'd also like to thank him for living up to my expectations, it shows that he is one dj that will always find the time for his fans! Thankyou for a great night and thankyou for the record!!!!!
