Ok, it's monday, so it's time for my thoughts on this weekends ruckus.. (what was that shit called?? Foundation?) well, first and foremost I absolutely have to give it up to my boy Brian Frost! Foundation was easily the best party I've been to this year, and definately the best party I've been to in the Sacramento area since Nine Sixteen! (and maybe even the best, period!) Three rooms of Drum n' Bass.. all done up proper and each on their own stand's!
Outside had that 'welcome to Spring and Summer 2001!' feel and everything was nice from the perfect weather to the smashing performances! Winter and Mo did an outstanding job of letting the crowd know that out back was not to be fucked with (and that track Mo dropped off the MD is classic ASC goodness!) and Reason, Slim n' Tofu absolutely dropped the bottom out! How refreshing to see 'em gettin' up under the tent and the stars! from Shadow to Knowledge to drunk ass Brian to N.W.A. to Regret.. Outside was dope all night and closed out especially well by Tony Kalhagen and the Ambient Love Lounge (who were gettin' a little more riled up than I usually see 'em.. to everyone's delight!)..
The side room was BASS thumpin' all night! everytime I went in or through there my bones were rattlin'!! and Audio Angel had the crowd captivated and held inside her melodic and always beautiful delivery.. Much respect to Hak, Freya, Havoc and everyone who played in there! (especially PL-X, who closed the room out with his special blend of breakbeat madness, served up with the enthusiam and precision that only Adrian could provide!)
On to the Bar, where it was just big kickin' it and cheap drinks all night! The second best place at the party to have a conversation (the corners out back were awfully chill on the lawn) The bar was always full of people coming, going and havin' a cold one. (It also made a great place for MattB, Billy, Pitcher, Swiss, Tao, COCO, Slim and myself and a few others to plan our covert excursions to the secret room.. hint: BASS n' BOWLS!)
Now the main room was absolutely crackin' MAD all night! Everybody killed shit in there, and the sound, lighting and lazers were all incredible! I gotta say though.. early on, (last half of Megatron's set and most way into Presha's) the Main room was goin' BROCK WILD! (that one's for Tao).. Mega, Presha and L-Ski had the place in fits man, I'm tellin' you! That part (along with Slim n' Tofu's finale outside) were the highlights of the entire event! BUT things were far from over in the big room... Sifu, Nman and Colecovision brought the goodness from the Thermal and Argon camps respectfully and kept the place jumpin' and bumpin' all night until the Mad Max and Ragga Banton came through and closed things out rinsin' style!
900 people all inside the place and there for the same reason..
The Drums and the Bass!
Now, from what I hear, the afterparty was nutty as well, (unfortunately I was super tired and looking forward to a SF strike in the morning, so I didn't make it over) and went until 6:00 in the AM to the sounds of the likes of Valis, Mikey J and the one and only Bill Lane!
so.. The FOUNDATION has been laid! Much thanks to everyone who played, helped out and \ or supported the cause! and MEGA HUGE Respect to Frost for Holdin' it all together and comin' through correct as ever! Foundation was Rock Solid and fit to stay that way! keep and eye out for updates and future events on www.black-locust.com and be sure to sign up for the mail list from the main page! until next time.. ez!
