TRUST THE DJ - Q1 - WHAT MAKES THIS ALBUM DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS YOU'VE DONE?
GOLDIE - “I took time off as an artist, making artist albums, as they take a long time to catch up on you. The thing with doing this album is it makes you realise you’re part of a bigger picture. It makes me happy thinking artists are made by other artists.
This album has allowed me to go back to my routes so to speak. I’ve been able to mix music that I really love, and mix music I really like. . Listening to other people’s music makes me want to make music, I get new ideas which is cool.”
TRUST THE DJ - Q2 - WHAT'S ON YOUR NEW WEBSITE?
GOLDIE - “Goldie.co.uk really inspires me, I got together with TrusttheDJ.com because I think they appreciate what being an artist is about. Having a platform to get over all my ideas in a real way and have it looked after properly. With TrusttheDJ you can open yourself up as an artist, and I trust the people involved to get across what I’m really like. I’m making information accessible to this scene.”
TRUST THE DJ - Q3 - WHAT'S YOUR PLANS FOR METALHEADZ?
GOLDIE - “I want to make it accessible for new artists. We’ve got people like Invaderz and Klute who are simple beautiful artists. Metalheadz as a family will always go forward and look at new artists, the door’s always open for that. The plan is to keep the website (Goldie.co.uk) going, keep people informed of what’s going on, forthcoming releases and stuff. That’s what I’m really into.”
TRUST THE DJ - Q4 - WHO ARE YOUR FAVOURITE ARTISTS?
GOLDIE - “Gotta be Future Cut right now, Intallex and Digital really. Digital’s been around a very, very long time, people don’t seem to realise how long he’s been around. He’s inspired me a lot with music. In the early days “Niagra” was one of the best twelves we put out. It’s gritty, UK, proper kinda music.
I think Future Cut have shown that there’s a bridge between people who are inspired by the scene and people who are inspired by other artists. I do take Future Cut very close to my heart – they’re just a great click. Things like “Obsession” really show that.
Total Science just doing “Champion Sound”, things like that that are reinvented kind of inspire me, and we all need inspiration. Obviously Doc Scott, because we started off together, in terms of the label and beyond that. Doc Scott was always my hero really from back in the day, making music and Grooverider playing his music wondering who this kid was. I get really inspired by things like that.
TRUST THE DJ - Q5 - WHAT OTHER PROJECTS ARE YOU WORKING ON?
GOLDIE - “As an artist I just enjoy exploring other avenues. Acting is one of those things, it has been great, I enjoy being an actor and being part of that. My film’s in production right now with my partner. It’s gonna be a British film about British people on the overground and underground, about what’s been going on.”
