DJ Abstract - Love Hurts / Maryam (Breakbeat Science)
REVIEW BY: Bazzy B
I love Abstract, and these two tunes are for me, the best to date. Nice liquid start to the track with smooth vocals layed down over the top. An experimental journey takes us into a sampled frenzy with upbeat rythm. This is definitely gonna be a Fabio favorite I can feel it, and why not. On the flip we have Maryam, which in turn, gives us a similar feel. Percussioned soundz introduce us to another fine production from Abstract. A Good ambient tempo remains constant throughout, and although not one for the dancefloor, it makes a good B Side.

Q Project - Stickey fingers - (Crash)
REVIEW BY: Bazzy B
Another vocally sampled tune, how many more are we gonna see? We were hoping that this year the vocal craze would die down just a little, we got nothing against vocal tunes, we love em, but as they say, "too many cooks spoil the broth". This tune doesn't rely upon the vocals to make it a good tune though, and simply uses them to add a more funkier vibe. A very Jungle / Jump Up feel to this one, out this month and a one for the dancefloors, and interesting to see if any remixes are produced at a later date.

Sketch & Code - Brain storm - (Emotif)
REVIEW BY: Bazzy B
Brilliant tune! Well what did you expect from Sketch & Code, nothing else that's for sure! These two swept the drum and bass nation last year, and it looks like they are gonna clean up in 2002 also. Brilliant use of samples and a superb mixture of basslines and clashy beats, stabbing synths and everything else you can think of is incorporated into this one. Nice one lads.

Various - The Harder They Come Vol 1. - (R. Hardware)
REVIEW BY: Bazzy B
The eagerly awaited HARDER THEY COME LP is finally released this week, and its not hard to see why this little compilation is the best thing since Armageddon. For us the Hardware camp have been running dry of producing quality tunes, but we take that statement back, as this one proves us wrong. Several artists feature, of which some of the best in the business with Intalex, Suspects, C4C and Sonic & Silver being just a few. The best thing is, this is just the first volume. Defintely a must for every basshead's record basket!

Pieter K - Somna / Stop On A Dime - (Metaformal)
REVIEW BY: Bazzy B
Pieter K did well last year, and kicks off his new label with its first release, produced by no other than the man himself. Somna takes us on a scientific journey through the ambient rigours of space. Drum rolls and snares are featured in a well thought production. Again the science begins on the flip side. With an eerie sensation like something from a horror movie, it opens up into a computer sounding bleeping machine. Nice, very nice and again a one for all Experimental fans. Well Done Pieter.

Mist:i:cal - Inside My Head / Swingtime - (Soul:r)
REVIEW BY: Knowledge Bazzy B
Not sure what is happening with this one, people have been telling us it ain't getting released, and some say it is. Anyway, we decided to review it any how. Intalex & Calibre's new partnership is going to blow up the scene big time. Two of last years best producers put their heads together to form a new partnership entitled Mist:i:cal. Inside my head is a tune which you can expect more of from the duo. It has Intalex written all over it. Slow but pacey beats maintain throughout this tune with the fading in and out of male vocals. Swingtime, funnily enough has Calibre written all over it. Living up to the title, this track provides enough hip-swing to last you throughout the time your on the dancefloor. Very upbeat and disco funky, tops!
