THE VAGRANT Nebula / Singularity (Fuze Recordings)
REVIEW BY: SPEX

Hot on the heels of his last release, The Vagrant is set to drop his next single for the Fuze camp. This time he's gonna take to the edge....Will you survive? Nebula is my favourite cut, with its big phat riff at the drop. Singularity is more Tech Funk (IF YOU HAVE TO LABEL IT). Once again Fuze Recordings are on point! Choice Cut - Nebula.

RATING: 7/10

SECRET TECHNOLOGY 'Hydrogen / Shifter' (Fuze Recordings)
REVIEW BY: SPEX

Right! Here we go with another releases on J(A)Y Sides Fuze Recordings. This time its the turn of Secret Technology, said to be 2 well respected producers in this World Of Drum and Bass! Hydrogen starting off with, strings, 808 kick and snare which will take you to a bassline riff (Bad Co. Style!). The drums creep back in, the rest another Fuzed sonic workout! On the flipside is Shifter, funky bassline, drumz to match, clanger noises, feedback all combining for yet another deep excursion into Drum and Bass!

RATING: 7/10

EGO TRIPPIN ''Rockin it / Watch it'' (Juice Records)
REVIEW BY: SPEX

Release number 28 from the Juice camp is a new signing Ego Trippin and their first release is - Gonna Mash Up Dem Speakers!. Phat rollin beats and some low-riding basslines. Watch It has live breaks and drum rolls with the low down dirty sonic bass, Juice press release quote So damn low its almost under water See (or feel) for yourselves! Rockin it has erie fx at the intro, leading to the drop, then bam!! Crisp biscuit breaks, destorted key pads riffs riding with the sub sonic bassline, is this gonna be a trademark of the Ego Trippers....??

RATING: 8/10

ILL FIGURE 'Dupe/Nimrod' (Double Zero) & X-MEN Bombin/Sonic Worx (Double Zero)
REVIEW BY: SPEX

The 1st cut from an Emotif imprint, Double Zero, was from, Manchesters golden boy Marcus Intalex. This time you can catch him in his Ill Figure guise. Nimrod and Dupe are two killas for the dancefloor, the next release is going to be from the X-Men? The X-Men are none other than Freeform(ers) - D Cutz, 2D and DTM. They've got the spotlight on em, as well as the rest of the Manchester Movement. Their up coming release for Double Zero, in X-Men mode, is Bombin and Sonic Worx. Watch this one drop!

RATING: 7/10

JUSTICE & NEIL TRIX 'TRANSMUTE' (HL47)
REVIEW BY: SPEX

Hard Leaders kicked of this year with 3 cutz that bust down the door of many a nightspot! Decoders amen rinse out Turn Over, flipped by Tag. Manifest charged in with Firin Squad and 3rd Eye. Tech Level 2 slipped in with Hymn and Hard Times. So what was next? Well a little excursion through the deep sounds of Justice and Neil Trix. Transmute giving me a flashback, back to the time of The Underground Sound of Detroit. This is just my opinion, take a listen yourselves then dig out ya classics. Hard Leaders are promising some big things this year and have proven there are many styles to this genre, Drum and Bass! HARD LEADERS GO DIGITAL!

RATING: 8/10

DIGITAL 'CRITICAL SITUATION/JESTER' (HL48)
REVIEW BY: SPEX

Due on Leaders is a bassline driven cut from one man they call Digital. He must have some suprise under the belt, because this one appeared out of the blue from Hard Leaders will it be a biggy? The answer to that one is YES! With the backing from the likes of Grooverider its set to rocket. Critical Situation isn't as ground breaking as some cuts on Hard Leaders or Digital's past productions. With its pitched up Straight Outta Compton breakbeat from NWA, ruff bass line and echo feedback vocals will rip the place apart for sure. On the flip you get Jester, well this is still kinda old skool vibin, funky two step patterns leading to an undertone of 4 beat (gabber springs to mind) . With some dirty sound fx more ruff basslines to keep the headz ringing and ragga mc samples. In order to get maximum effects from these track play extremely loud preferably in a nightclub!

RATING: 8/10

TSUNREAI FUJUII 'MEGLADON' (PHUTURISTIC BLUEZ 004)
REVIEW BY: SPEX

Next up on the Phuturistic Bluez label is a bit of stomper from Tsunreai Fujuii. Megladon comes to us in two versions, one from Technical Itch, then the original lick! The original is a full on Amen Rinser from the off! Plenty of atmospheric sounds trippin in and out along with tech stabs all twisting and turning take through a Phuturistic Bluez soundscape. Tech Itch have taken the original and given the treatment you would expect. Keeping the original horn stab, but this time a more of a two step drum thing is going town. A low rider b-line creepin in and out, not as affective as the original but a bit of a grower. Its A Creeper! Don't Sleep On It!
