FUTURE TECH - “MUDLSIDE / MATCHSTICK” - (TECHNIQUE RECS).
|
|
REVIEW BY: SPEX
“Mudslide” continues with the futuristic D’n’B journey, a vocal snap
states “All the Word on Fire” which introduces the bass riff. Sci-fi
Tech(nique) Stylin’! “Matchstick” starts off with a snappy percussive
rhythms, hardcore stabs. Technique Recordings are back hot on the heals
of Dubtrack with 2 more futuristic D’n’B tunes for the bag.

A SIDES - “BIG REQUEST / SPREAD LOVE” - (HARD LEADERS 53)
|
|
REVIEW BY: SPEX
A Sides rolls out yet another double header, this time on the Hard
Leaders label, this is a debut production on for the Leaders Camp. “Big
Request” is not too far from the East Side release “Crazy”, which is
doin’ the do on the remix tip at the moment. The Amen cut seems to be
fashionable again, did it ever fade away? “Big Request”, with its ragga
sample should smash up the place in most, if not all, DJ Sets all arond
the world. Right to the other side “Spread Love”. This has a percussive
bongo style to it male ‘n’ female vocals and a bassline that bounces
along with the rhythms. A simple yet effective D’n’B cut for the ladies
and creating that summer vibe, even if the UK weather is dull!

SKEPTIC - “TEAR” \ “MEDIA” (EASTSIDE)
|
|
REVIEW BY: SPEX
Number 41 from the Eastside Camp is from newblood “Skeptic”. The intro
has female vocals giving that “Ravism” feel in turn creating an
uplfiting introduction to a basic Amen workout. Eastside seem to be
using quite alot of Amen Break in their tunes at the mo’ but I can
still
see this one dropping big time in the dance! Check the flip for some
slightly minimalistic rollin’ D’n’B, Skeptic Style!

BASIC UNIT - “WRATH / “ - (FLEX RECS).
|
|
REVIEW BY: SPEX
Are you ready for a bit of Amen Tearout. This one from Basic Unit are
two more on the Ooooold skoool tip. “Wrath” has piano riff reminiscent
of a tune on R&S Records, check the “Highlander” ep from around 1992,
for the trainspotters. The B side continues with the hardcore, detroit
tech journey. Plenty of well known and used stabs here, yet another
slice of Amen to rinse out. Are we sick of this formula yet?
