Smokey Joe - “Dirty Games” / “Medallion” (Smokers Inc.)
REVIEW BY: Spex

The “Smokey” one returns with this double A side feature. Two more 2 step stompers. ”Medallion” has a female vocal lead intro with some neat sci-fi electronica as the beats fade out the bassline creeps onto the set. Everything that a good steppin’ soldier tune needs is in here, so head down and get marching. “Dirty Games’ on the flip is a little more minimal especially in the intro of the beat section, but they still roll nicely as the track drops. This has as similar female vocal, “En Vogue” I think? The riff on this one has the old skool vibe, if you know what I mean.

Various – Out of town EP – (Industry)
REVIEW BY: Bazzy B

Industry records really pulls out all of the stops with this release. Decoder, Citizen, C4C and Accidental Hero’s feature and a banging EP that you will wanna play again and again. “Fuk U” by decoder is a glum and stirring tune that only decoder knows best. Citizen enter with full on female vocals and a funky little number entitled “Doubt” while Cause for Concern whip out “Dtox” a repetitive tune with stabbing beats, and the EP is rounded off with Manchester kru Accidental Hero’s with “Forgotten Worlds”, which gives off an early nineties hardcore feel as well as incorporating a more heavy sound of the later decade. Definitely worth a listen!

DJ Rap and Danny C - “Deep Inside” / “Colours” (Proper Talent).
REVIEW BY: Spex

It’s been 3 long years since we had a release from the Proper Talent stable. So what has the leading lady of the Drum and Bass fraternity served up here? Well, for starters she has enlisted the talents of the one and only Danny C aka Twisted Anger on the A side “Deep Inside”. If you liked the sound he created on previous Twisted Anger productions, this one is most definitely for you. Smooth vocals, the bouncy Amen break and extra fat destorted b-line create a dancefloor cut for the headz. The flip totally suprised me! “Colours” has taken the electro come nu skool breaks route, this one is aimed at the big beat DJ. So a loud return for Proper Talent, DJ Rap, alongside a name to watch out for, Danny C. Keep ‘em peeled for a classic Rap Moment “Spiritual Aura”, another collaboration with Danny C.

Alec Denver – 001 / Downtime – (Dread)
REVIEW BY: Bazzy B

I like these tunes. Alec’s first release on Dread, and he gets off to a good start. “001” Begins like some sort of kiddies show soundtrack, then some deep hollowing bass follows later droning out the original beats with this funked up deep rhythm, and its basically a concoction of both sounds together for the rest of the track. Great stuff. “Downtime” sounds somewhat familiar, but I can’t put my finger on what. Sounding very jungly, it opens with a tribal feel and from then on in it is a barrage of wounding beats. Very nice!

DJ Devize and 3A - “Outta Site” / “Friendly Fire” (3D Mode Recordings).
REVIEW BY: Spex

Are you ready for the second offering from the Kool FM Crew? Devize and 3A are set to cause a bit of a situation with their next release on the new imprint 3D Mode. This release is already gathering heavy rotation from the big wigs all over the UK. “Outta Site” and “Friendly Fire” are gonna take you to the next level of the 3D Mode journey. “Outta Site” is my personal fave it make you wanna move in the right way, it builds to a bit of an epic at the end, madness!! The “Friendly Fire” track has some old skool elements in it nice choppy beats proving this crew are set to do some damage, watch this space for forthcoming info on future projects. Don’t forget to check the 3dMode show every Saturday 1600hrs - 1800hrs by logging onto the Kool website @ www.koolfm.co.uk!

Mampi Swift – Feedback EP – Charge Recordings
REVIEW BY: Bazzy B

A nice four track EP here, which amplifies what everybody is expecting from Mampi’s label. When I placed this on me player, I thought my machine was knackered! “Feedback” starts with some weird computer slicing sounds, which confused the hell out of me to begin with, very nice and very new. Then the main synths kicked in and I realised I had heard this tune many a time during various dj sets in clubs and on the radio, which is testiment to how big Mampi has become and why he is raved about in all four corners of the globe. The bass just echoes all around the room on “Danger”. “Sunrise” & No Way Out” represent a futuristic side of an EP that is proper warped!
